Early Childhood Director Occupational Certificate

The Early Childhood Education Director Certificate at Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) prepares students for leadership roles in early childhood care and education settings – not limited to the professional roles of director or assistant director. This occupational certificate provides the foundational knowledge and administrative skills necessary to meet Colorado Human Services licensing education requirements for early childhood directors.

Students will gain expertise in administration, risk management, ethical decision-making, human relations, and hiring processes, while also engaging in discussions on learning theory and pedagogy. Upon completing the director certificate, students will also have met the academic requirements for Early Childhood Teacher and Early Childhood Teacher Assistant occupational certificates, with the option to fully transfer credits into CNCC’s Early Childhood Education A.A.S. degree.

In addition to academic coursework, the Colorado Department of Human Services requires at least 24 months (3,640 hours) of verifiable work experience to qualify as a director. However, completing this certificate helps them gain the necessary experience to advance in the field.
